Qualifications:

• Required:

  • Experience developing machine learning applications; including trades and utilization of: SVM, reinforcement learning, and neural networks;

• Desired:
  • Proficiency with existing machine learning tools and libraries: Tensorflow, Shogun, MLPack, etc.
  • Experience developing control systems using machine learning techniques.
  • Experience applying machine learning algorithms to RF communication signals and channels for identification and classification.
  • Understanding of wireless communication channels including, digital signal processing and filtering for common modulation and coding waveforms.
  • System design experience for space based platforms, including analysis, design and test for mission critical software.
  • Experience designing and implementing wireless network technologies.

Tethers Unlimited is seeking a top-notch mechanical engineer to contribute to the development of mechanisms and full systems for undersea, space, and terrestrial missions.

Essential Functions:

• Design and implement improvements to an automated precision cable winding machine.
• Design, prototype, and perform testing on systems for deploying tethered sensors in undersea, space, and terrestrial environments.
• Apply principles of engineering to detailed design and research tasks.
• Provide analysis and validation of design and theoretical concepts, using established research techniques.
• Develop and perform modeling, simulation, and analysis of dynamic systems.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams to create integrated products.

Qualifications:

• Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline.
  • Minimum five (5) years of related work experience (minimum two years of related work experience if paired with a MSME or equivalent).
  • Experience with electro-mechanical systems design, prototyping, and testing.
  • Experience participating in design reviews and providing feedback on mechanical design concepts.
  • Experience with PLCs and fiber optics.
  • Proficient with SolidWorks, PDM, and drawing configuration management.
  • Experience developing drawings for manufacturing using GD&T.
• Desired:
  • Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline.
  • Previous cable winding experience.
  • Previous work with the U.S. Department of Defense a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop board, FPGA, and processor design requirements and specifications.
• Develop and test signal processing algorithms in Matlab.
• Implement complex algorithms in HDL and C/C++.
• Develop robust test bench and simulations for algorithm testing and verification.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams to create and successfully deliver integrated products.

Mandatory Knowledge/Skills

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related major.
• 3+ years of experience with Software Defined Radios (SDR) or digital signal processing (DSP).
• Experience programming in Matlab, Python, and C/C++.
• Experience programming in VHDL or Verilog targeting FPGAs, preferably experience with Xilinx development tools.
• Understanding of wireless communication channels including, signal processing for common modulation and coding waveforms.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desired

• Experience designing and executing tests for the space environment.
• Communication system design experience for space based platforms, including link budget analysis.
• Experience designing and implementing wireless network technologies.
• Familiar with any of AFSCN SGLS, MILSTD-188-181C, CCSDS, DVB-S2, and OFDM waveforms.
• Ability to conduct board schematic and circuit design.
