Mechanical Engineer

Tethers Unlimited is seeking a top-notch mechanical engineer to contribute to the development of space technology, including mechanisms, structures, and propulsion systems. The successful candidate will play a key role in maturing technologies from the prototype level to fully-qualified space flight hardware, so experience with space flight hardware is a strong desirement.

Experience Desired:

  • Experience with complex electro-mechanical systems design, prototyping, testing, and flight qualification.
  • Knowledge of materials, actuators, valves, bearings, gears and mechanisms suitable for operation in harsh environments.
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining 3D Printers.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks design tools.
  • Machine shop experience beneficial (lathe and mill).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. with 4+ years work experience.

Embedded Software Engineer

Tethers Unlimited Inc. is looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, and test high performance complex real-time avionics solutions for space based products.
Responsibilities

  • Software requirements definition, including supporting hardware selection for new PCB designs.
  • Document requirements, design, testing, and API for software products.
  • Design, develop, implement, and test real-time embedded software written in C/C++ and VHDL/Verilog.
  • Develop and unit test implemented software.
  • Work with multidisciplinary team to create integrated products.
  • Support PCB design review and component-level driver development. bring-up testing.

Mandatory Knowledge/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related major. (Aerospace Engineer with very strong mechatronics and embedded controller / control systems experience is also acceptable.)
  • 3+ years of experience programming in C/C++ and VHDL/Verilog for embedded microprocessors and FPGAs.
  • Strong understanding of hardware communication protocols including: SPI, I2C, Ethernet, etc.
  • Strong low-level embedded coding skills and software / hardware co-design.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team.
  • Knowledge and experience with embedded real-time operating systems, such as FreeRTOS.
  • Ability to read hardware schematics and circuit designs and datasheets for driver development.
  • Familiarity with standard software development workflows and best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desired

  • Experience developing software and executing tests for complex embedded systems.
  • Experience programming for mixed-domain Xilinx FPGAs with embedded microprocessors.

Software Engineer – SDR/DSP

Tethers Unlimited Inc. is looking for an Avionics Engineer with an emphasis on communication subsystems to design, develop, and test high performance software defined radios for space based platforms.
Responsibilities

  • Develop board, FPGA, and processor design requirements and specifications.
  • Develop and test signal processing algorithms in Matlab.
  • Implement complex algorithms in HDL and C/C++.
  • Develop robust test bench and simulations for algorithm testing and verification.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to create and successfully deliver integrated products.

Mandatory Knowledge/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related major.
  • 3+ years of experience with Software Defined Radios (SDR) or digital signal processing (DSP).
  • Experience programming in Matlab, Python, and C/C++.
  • Experience programming in VHDL or Verilog targeting FPGAs, preferably experience with Xilinx development tools.
  • Understanding of wireless communication channels including, signal processing for common modulation and coding waveforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desired

  • Experience designing and executing tests for the space environment.
  • Communication system design experience for space based platforms, including link budget analysis.
  • Experience designing and implementing wireless network technologies.
  • Familiar with any of AFSCN SGLS, MILSTD-188-181C, CCSDS, DVB-S2, and OFDM waveforms.
  • Ability to conduct board schematic and circuit design.
