Software Developer – Digital Signal Processing and Machine Learning

Tethers Unlimited is seeking a software developer with experience in digital signal processing and machine learning to contribute to development of cognitive radio technologies.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop requirements, design, and specifications for digital signal processing and machine learning algorithms.
  • Research, advise and develop appropriate processing techniques for various control applications.
  • Implement complex algorithms, targeting embedded systems.
  • Develop robust test-bench and simulations for algorithm testing and verification.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to create and successfully deliver integrated products.

Qualifications:

  • Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related major.
    • Experience programming in Matlab, Python, C/C++.
    • Experience programming targeting embedded systems.
    • Experience developing machine learning applications; including trades and utilization of: SVM, reinforcement learning, and neural networks;
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Desired:
    • Proficiency with existing machine learning tools and libraries: Tensorflow, Shogun, MLPack, etc.
    • Experience developing control systems using machine learning techniques.
    • Experience applying machine learning algorithms to RF communication signals and channels for identification and classification.
    • Understanding of wireless communication channels including, digital signal processing and filtering for common modulation and coding waveforms.
    • System design experience for space based platforms, including analysis, design and test for mission critical software.

Mechanical Engineer

Tethers Unlimited is seeking a top-notch mechanical engineer to contribute to the development of mechanisms and full systems for undersea, space, and terrestrial missions.

Essential Functions:

  • Design and implement improvements to an automated precision cable winding machine.
  • Design, prototype, and perform testing on systems for deploying tethered sensors in undersea, space, and terrestrial environments.
  • Apply principles of engineering to detailed design and research tasks.
  • Provide analysis and validation of design and theoretical concepts, using established research techniques.
  • Develop and perform modeling, simulation, and analysis of dynamic systems.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to create integrated products.

Qualifications:

  • Required:

    • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline.
    • Minimum five (5) years of related work experience (minimum two years of related work experience if paired with a MSME or equivalent).
    • Experience with electro-mechanical systems design, prototyping, and testing.
    • Experience participating in design reviews and providing feedback on mechanical design concepts.
    • Experience with PLCs and fiber optics.
    • Proficient with SolidWorks, PDM, and drawing configuration management.
    • Experience developing drawings for manufacturing using GD&T.
  • Desired:
    • Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline.
    • Previous cable winding experience.
    • Previous work with the U.S. Department of Defense a plus.

Software Engineer – SDR/DSP

Tethers Unlimited Inc. is looking for an Avionics Engineer with an emphasis on communication subsystems to design, develop, and test high performance software defined radios for space based platforms.
Responsibilities

  • Develop board, FPGA, and processor design requirements and specifications.
  • Develop and test signal processing algorithms in Matlab.
  • Implement complex algorithms in HDL and C/C++.
  • Develop robust test bench and simulations for algorithm testing and verification.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to create and successfully deliver integrated products.

Mandatory Knowledge/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related major.
  • 3+ years of experience with Software Defined Radios (SDR) or digital signal processing (DSP).
  • Experience programming in Matlab, Python, and C/C++.
  • Experience programming in VHDL or Verilog targeting FPGAs, preferably experience with Xilinx development tools.
  • Understanding of wireless communication channels including, signal processing for common modulation and coding waveforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desired

  • Experience designing and executing tests for the space environment.
  • Communication system design experience for space based platforms, including link budget analysis.
  • Experience designing and implementing wireless network technologies.
  • Familiar with any of AFSCN SGLS, MILSTD-188-181C, CCSDS, DVB-S2, and OFDM waveforms.

Control Design and Simulation Engineer

We are looking for a Control Design and Simulation Engineer capable of full design cycle development and integration for aerospace and defense products.

Responsibilities

  • Perform full design cycle control system development including: control system architecture development, control system requirements definition, control system integration, control system safety assessment, control system integration testing (model-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop simulation), and issue tracking and resolution.
  • Perform modeling, simulation, and analysis of systems and subsystems as needed.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to create integrated products.
Required Experience:

  • Experience in multidisciplinary system modeling, simulation, and analysis.
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink.
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering principles including: requirements identification and flow down and the V-model.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desired Experience

  • Experience with model-based design concepts.
  • Familiarity with standard verification and validation processes and procedures.
  • Experience with development for embedded systems

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineer.
  • 2+ years of experience in the Aerospace industry.
