Software Developer – Digital Signal Processing and FPGA

This is an opportunity to write mission critical software for a variety of our aerospace targeted products. Tethers Unlimited has launched several products and continues to expand its in-space portfolio.

Essential Functions

  • Develop requirements, design, and specifications for digital signal processing for FPGA systems.
  • Research, advise and develop appropriate processing techniques for various control applications.
  • Implement complex algorithms and waveforms, targeting embedded systems.
  • Develop robust test-bench and simulations for algorithm testing and verification.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to create and successfully deliver integrated products.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related major.

Satellite Communications Systems Engineer

Tethers Unlimited Inc. is looking for an experienced Satellite Communications Systems Engineer.


As a Communication Systems Engineer, you will engage with a cross-functional team to conceive and design innovative wireless products for space.  You will work closely with an internal cross-functional team and customers to drive key aspects of product definition, execution and test.  You must be responsive, flexible, and able to succeed with limited input. The qualified applicant must have professional experience with RF design, analysis, and test experience to include analysis of RF waveform performance and propagation (dynamic range, harmonics, bandwidths, etc.) and RF performance requirements (link analysis, propagation effects, basic antenna design/trades, LNAs, filters, limiters, etc.). This position is critical to the organization and will be involved in every aspect of development lifecycle process from the proposal to integration testing, production ramp-up, and sustaining efforts.

Essential Functions

  • Work within a project team and take responsibility for the Software Defined Radio implementation which operate at UHF, S, X, and KA Bands.
  • Be the main point of contact for customers related to their satellite implementation and integration efforts.
  • Drive RF requirements definition, including customer-facing discussion and briefings.
  • Design, development, simulation, integration, including requirements analysis/design tradeoffs and developing solutions in accordance with system/product architectures.
  • Documenting performance requirements and developing test procedures.
  • Algorithm and protocol design for wireless communications systems.
  • Perform architecture trade studies for wireless communications systems.
  • Participating in system field tests to evaluate performance and compliance with requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • At least three (3) years of experience working closely with real-time software, RF hardware, system hardware, and test engineers.
  • MATLAB and C/C++ based simulator development experience.
  • Experience in wireless system design and architecture, system integration, test, degugging and desense analysis.
  • Experience with RF lab equipment including VNA, power meters, spectrum analyzers, vector signal generators.

Satellite Systems Engineer

  • Perform modeling, simulation, and analysis of systems for other teams as needed.

Software Engineer – Embedded Systems

Manufacturing Test Engineer

As part of the Satellite products division, you will be helping to develop our next generation software defined radios, thrusters and gimbals for the small satellite industry.

In this role you will be responsible for developing hardware and software test systems to support the production process. This will include product design participation for Design for Excellence (DFX), supporting design prototype efforts, participation in the development of the production process, designing test solutions, deploying them and supporting them in the production process.

Quality Manager

The Quality Control Manger is responsible for establishing an effective corporate Quality Management System (QMS) that promotes continuous improvement and customer satisfaction. This position uses knowledge of regulatory requirements to assess, document, and make recommendations for the quality of manufactured and distributed products.

The qualified applicant should have professional experience developing a quality system, preferably AS9100 or ISO9001. This is a new organization in the company and therefore will require hands-on participation in all aspects of the company.

This position is critical to the organization and will be involved in every aspect of development lifecycle process from the proposal to integration testing, production ramp up and sustaining efforts.


Essential Functions

  • Develop an AS9100 Quality System
  • Introduce and implement the quality processes and tools required to ensure product quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Produce and drive the creation of quality processes and procedures with key contributors in the organization.
  • Educate and train employees as to their impact in the quality management system.
  • Design, implement, and document procedures for process control, process improvement, testing, and inspection.
  • Establish and implement metrics (process capability, control charts, measurement criteria) for monitoring system effectiveness and to enable managers to make sound process / product quality decisions.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and other problem-solving activities to identify effective corrective actions and process improvements.
  • Monitor vendor performance and establish criteria and rating system for critical vendors.
  • Oversee calibration and inspection programs.
  • Manages the review and approval of finished products manufactured for and by the company in accordance with their approved specifications.
  • Manages product RMA activities and supplier RMA activities as well as product recall policies and procedures for the company. Additionally, manage product compliant activities and processes.
  • Manages all inspections and questions relating to the operation of manufacturing.

Qualifications - Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or equivalent number of years of experience.
  • Five (5) years of experience in QA systems implementation and management.
  • Extensive material and product knowledge in electronics components, PCB’s and metals machining.
  • Experience with quality requirements for specific markets including defense and aerospace.
  • Working in a start-up atmosphere is a plus.
  • Must be a US Person under International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) to be eligible.
