Structural Multi-Layer Insulation (S-MLI)

TUI has developed a novel process for fabricating spacecraft structures with integral multi-layer thermal insulation. This process adapts additive manufacturing techniques such as 3D printing to enable creation of customized satellite 'exoskeleton' structures with both high structural strength and very low effective emissivity. The S-MLI technology enables very rapid design-analysis-build-integration cycles for responsive, low-cost development of spacecraft requiring thermal insulation. TUI has successfully demonstrated a capability for "1-week from 'Go'-to-Launch" for a small satellite with the S-MLI technology.
